Elective attachment for overseas medical students
We accept a limited number of medical students outside Hong Kong for elective attachment in our department.
Objectives
1. To learn imaging and interpretation of common and emergency disorders by case-based tutorials.
2. To provide exposure to various specialty fields in radiology
3. To understand the role of the radiologist in the diagnosis of disease and management of patients.
Nature of the attachment
The programme comprises a one week Basic Radiology Course with 6th year CUHK medical students, and students may elect up to three additional weeks of clinical attachment. The clinical attachment part is primarily observational and conducted across Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology sessions.
Eligibility
Medical students must be in their final year at the time of attachment to better integrate them into the available teaching activities.
The student must secure a student visa, if applicable. He/she must arrange his/her own accommodations and must have medical / health insurance covering the attachment period.
Period
The maximum period approved will be four weeks within the academic year (June to March, with a “black out” period in April and May). The elective attachment is conducted during normal working hours (weekdays only). Preferred elective dates may be indicated at application; however, final dates and duration are subject to departmental assignment and confirmation.
Venue
Prince of Wales Hospital
Certification & documentation
Upon completion of the elective attachment, students will receive a digital Certificate of Attendance with the student’s name and dates of the elective period.
If additional documentation is required by the student’s home institution (e.g. confirmation letters or prescribed forms), students must prepare these documents in advance using the required wording. Where applicable, the Department may request document templates from the student during the application process for review. All documentation is subject to verification and signature by the Elective Programme Coordinator.
Programme scope & suitability
International students are responsible for ensuring that the elective attachment in our Department meets the academic and administrative requirements of their home institution prior to application. The elective programme is standardised for all international students and cannot be customised to meet individual institutional criteria. Note that the clinical attachment is primarily observational in nature, and opportunities for direct clinical work or hands on involvement in procedures are not guaranteed, as these are subject to institutional policy, supervision arrangements, and patient safety considerations.
Application
Please course applications through CUHK’s online platform.
